"This cane," explained
Cooperdale, "is a
Penang lawyer. An odd name for a walking stick, eh, Lowder? In the city of
Penang there is supposed to be one way to settle arguments. That is with the aid
of a stick shaped like this. Every man carries his own lawyer. Hence the name:
Penang lawyer."
"His wet clothing showed that he had
been out in the storm of the night before, and his stick, which was a Penang-lawyer
weighted with lead, was just such a weapon as might, by repeated blows, have
inflicted the terrible injuries to which the trainer had succumbed."
The band I'm in is called the Penang Lawyers, we have quite diverse musical influences, I'm into anything that's
played well without computers, currently Reef, Kula Shaker, Ocean Colour Scene
and the Levellers but always seem to go back to my all time favourites The Cult
and The Black Crows.
Rick, Martin and Kev seem to be more into seventies rock and
blues. Doug spent most of his time in jazz bands but like me is into anything
played well.
We decided to be democratic when we formed and each brought about
six songs to the set so it's a bit of a strange mix but hopefully something for
everyone.
